DRIVING ENTITY

LEITAT, the platform coordinator of the Healthcare Living Lab Catalonia

LEITAT is a Technological Center, member of the TECNIO (Catalan Trade and Investment Agency) and recognized by the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness of the Spanish Government, that aims to collaborate with companies and institutions by adding technological value, both to products and processes, and focuses its activity on research, development and industrial innovation (R+D+2i).

As a Technological Partner, the Center is clearly committed to adapting and transforming the technological challenges into economic and social value. Since its foundation in 1906, LEITAT has prioritized its vocation of proximity by strengthening the principles of professionalism and respect to people and environment at the same time.

This Center promotes the implementation of industrial innovation strengthening modernization of the productive structures and the development of new high technology value products in many different sectors. LEITAT provides flexible management in an “Open Innovation” as collaborative and cooperation driving force for technology transfer.

With a total of 346 employees, LEITAT is currently managing over 90 European Innovation projects from different technological sectors.

A GROWING NETWORK OF PARTNERS

Consorci Sanitari de Terrassa

The Consorci Sanitari de Terrassa (CST) is a public healthcare organization formed by a General Hospital, a Social-Healthcare Hospital, 8 Primary Care Centers, a Penitentiary Hospital, a High-Performance Sports Center – CAR, and a Nursing and Occupational Therapy School. The Terrassa Hospital comprises a total of 457 beds, it is a reference hospital for 200,710 inhabitants, and it has over 2,300 employees. Additionally, it counts with a Research Foundation (Joan Costa Roma).

Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí

The Corporació Sanitària Parc Taulí de Sabadell (CSPT) is a public healthcare organization (Consortium) formed by a General Hospital, with a total of 753 beds, a Social Healthcare Center, a Mental Health Center, several Primary Care Centers, a Nursing Home, a Diagnostic Imaging Center, and a Center for the Elderly. It is the reference hospital for a population of 399,729 and it has over 3,840 professionals. Additionally, it counts with a Research and Innovation Institute (I3PT).

Fundació Hospital d’Olot i Comarcal de la Garrotxa

In 2014, the Hospital Sant Jaume d’Olot became the Fundació Hospital d’Olot i Comarcal de la Garrotxa (FHOCG), in a new location and a modern building. With a Surface of over 27,000 m2, it has a capacity to provide service for 60,000 people. The Foundation offers specialized hospital care, chronic care, and primary care.

The new Hospital offers significant healthcare improvements, in addition to new equipment. In recent years, the FHOCG has been incorporating new services and increasing its activity, such as the new Hemodialysis service and the start of the oncology activity with the collaboration of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO).

Fundació Privada Hospital Asil de Granollers

The Fundació Privada Hospital Asil de Granollers (FPHAG) is a healthcare, socio-sanitary and social care center, integrated into the comprehensive healthcare system of Catalonia. The hospital provides health care assistance both for acute and non-acute patients and it is the reference hospital Vallès Oriental, covering a population of around 400,000 people and with a total number of beds of 340. FPHAG is a university hospital where research, innovation and teaching are important in order to be a referent in health and social care, being recognized for innovation and efficiency at the core of its mission.

Institut Català de la Salut

The Institut Català de la Salut (ICS; Catalan Institute of Health) is a public company affiliated to the Department of Health. It is the largest provider of the Catalan Health Service (CatSalut), who insures a universal health coverage in Catalonia. ICS is composed by 8 large hospitals, almost 300 primary care centers, and over 160 centers specialized in additional services. In total, ICS provides health care to nearly 6 million users.

MútuaTerrassa

Founded in 1900, MútuaTerrassa is an entity of social benefit whose mission is to serve the citizens, anticipating and solving problems related to health, social care and well-being. Specialized Healthcare services are provided via a 460-bed teaching hospital and the clinical center Aptima, and ambulatory healthcare via nine primary care centers. Social care is provided by more than 20 residential facilities all over the Catalonia region, providing care for elderly, mental health care, social care and care for people with intellectual disabilities. Furthermore, they provide insurance services and sanitary logistic management services.

Unió Catalana d’Hospitals

The Unió Catalana d’Hospitals (Catalan Hospital, Health & Social Services Association) is a membership association of health and social care services providers (hospitals, primary care organizations, providers of long-term care, mental healthcare, and social services for dependent people), integrating providers of the public Catalan healthcare system, and also private healthcare providers. Its long history endorses Catalan Hospital, Health & Social Services Association as an organization with great experience and knowledge on the healthcare sector.

STRATEGIC ALLIANCES

CIMTI (Center for the Integration of Medicine and Innovative Technologies)

CIMTI is an instrument at the service of the Catalan Health and Social System. It was created in 2016 with the aim to improve the conversion ratio of scientific research on innovation.

CIMTI identifies the most relevant challenges of the health and social system in coordination with the implicated Departments of the Generalitat de Catalunya. Through its calls, CIMTI selects the best proposals to solve these challenges and accompanies the selected projects both in the maturation and implementation stages.

This instrument gives support in the areas of business, market, public procurement of innovation, regulatory, clinical, technology, investment, and communication. And it contributes to the maturation of projects by facilitating work meetings with its network of experts.

CIMIT (Consortia for Improving Medicine with Innovation and Technology)

CIMIT is a network of word-class academic and medical institutions that partner with industry and government. Its mission is to foster collaboration among several stakeholders to accelerate innovation and catalyze the development and implementation of innovative healthcare technologies.

Based in Boston (USA) and with over 20 years of experience, CIMIT has created a successful model for accelerating innovative projects in the healthcare sector. Its scope includes the full spectrum of medical innovation (e-health, drugs, and biologics).
