PROTOTYPING

In order to develop design or functional prototypes of innovative solutions, the HCLLC uses Leitat's experience and prototyping capabilities in the areas of Health and Biomedicine, Applied Chemistry and Materials, Advanced Engineering, and Robotics. Through prototyping, one can demonstrate key functions of products or services, collect feedback from end users, and guide further design and development.

Different types of prototypes can be developed: paper, looks-like, works-like, and works-like-looks-like. Additionally, the focus can be on finding the suitable and sustainable materials for the products’ manufacturing.

DO YOU NEED A PROTOTYPE?
LET'S TALK

PROTOTYPING EXAMPLE
THE COMPANY

ABLE has developed a light and easy-to-use robotic exoskeleton to assist individuals with mobility impairments to stand up, walk, and sit down, improving their quality of life.

THE MILESTONES
The need

THE NEED
The company’s need was to find the best way to manufacture specific pieces from the exoskeleton’s prototype to advance in their development.

The activities

THE ACTIVITIES
The HCLLC, in collaboration with the Additive Manufacturing Team from Leitat and the IAM3DHUB, performed a study to benchmark different manufacturing technologies and printed the specific prototype pieces with different materials, to test them.

The milestones

THE ACHIEVED MILESTONES
• Printing of prototype pieces with different techniques and materials.
• Recommendation from experts on additive manufacturing and 3D printing on the best manufacturing technique, based on physical and mechanical properties.
• Useful information that allowed the company to continue the effective development of the prototype.
